Positano Churches

Back to index

We visited 4 churches in Positano: 2 are in sub-Positano, one is about half-way up the hill, and one at the top of the hill. The two in sub-Positano seem to both be named Santa Maria Assunta. The larger one (photos 1-14) is the most famous and is the largest, and has weddings in it almost every day. Sometimes during weddings you get the chance to hear the pipe organ, which is a really beautiful, unique sound. The smaller one near the taxi stand (photos 15-19) has some really interesting ancient paintings. Half-way up the hill is the Chiesa di Santa Caterina (photos 20-21), which is a tiny neo-Gothic church built for a local family. Near the top of the hill is the Chiesa di Nuova (photos 22-28), restored in the 18th century, is unique because of its oval-shape.
