Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi

Back to index

Sant'Agata is situated high atop a hill, where there are views of both the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. The 16th century Renaissance church, Santa Maria delle Grazie (photos 1-11), houses a 17th century Florentine alter brought from Naples, inlaid with lapis, malachite, mother-of-pearl, and polychrome marble. Also in Sant'Agata is a monestery, Convento dei Padri Bigi (photos 12-16), built in the middle ages. Although the monastery was closed, it was worth the short walk for the panoramic views.
